What Style Staircase Suits Your Home and Décor?

Because a staircase is so centrally located, it often ends up being a focal point of an entire home’s style. When you’re ready to make a change, it helps to know what kind of overall look you’re going for. Here are some of the most popular styles that have developed over the years.

Art Deco

Art deco features strong geometric designs, with an emphasis on rigidity and symmetry. Despite being angular and clean-cut, art deco style could still be quite extravagant and detailed. If you want strong lines as well as artistic detail, you should go with an art deco style.

Modern

Despite its name, modern design hails from the mid-20th century. The mantra of the age was, “Form follows function,” and modern designs are known for their openness and minimalism. If your style calls for clear-cut lines and almost no superfluous ornamentation, then you want a modern style.

Contemporary

Contemporary styles blend the minimalistic nature of the modern styles with some clear artistic flourishes. Contemporary styles are eclectic and therefore hard to define. If you like minimal design, but still want something eye-catching, what you’re thinking of is probably a contemporary style.

These are, by no means, the only styles available for staircases, balustrades, and railings. In a future blog we’ll talk about some of the older, more ornate styles that have been developed. No matter what you have in mind, Cacciola Iron Works can make a railing that complements your home beautifully.
